Inspection solution for BIPV modules from MBJ

The challenges of manufacturing BIPV modules are high. No standardization and small series require special production processes and testing technology.

Together with Smartcon, MBJ developed a sun simulator and an electroluminescence system for BIPV modules and successfully installed them in production.

Modules up to 2x4 m in size had to be tested. The modules are extremely heavy due to the thick glass panes. Only small series are manufactured, which requires a high degree of flexibility in the testing systems. The solution was manual testing systems with a measuring range of 2x2 m. The largest modules are then tested in two steps. The operating concept allows the modules to be easily handled. The cover protects the systems from external light and thus avoids incorrect measurements.

Thanks to LED technology, the solar simulator could be built as a compact table-top device. Movable, high-resolution cameras were used for the electroluminescence system. Through joint development with the customer, an ideal solution could be designed and implemented.
